Just did a VCDS scan of my car, since I have fixed the alarm now and wanted to clear the fault code.

However the MMI upgrade has left my DSP in component protection, sound appears to be normal and coming from all channels however. Both faults come back straight away.

The car is going into my local indy next Tuesday, I wonder how friendly they are with the Audi dealer.

I've fixed the control head fault code, adaption channel 12 had forgotten the type of phone installed. Changed it to "1" and the fault has cleared.

All I have left is the component protection on the DSP.

Check the settings on the DSP too, it's showing a coding error..

I think the reason its apparently still working normally is that I only have the 02084 - Component Protection fault code. Looking at other forums, those with operational issues seem to also have, 02095 - Component Protection Active. I don't have the latter code at all.

Since it seems to be working (have yet to do a long drive), its a low priority issue to me. I have emailed my indy to see if they can take it to Audi when they have the car next week, the dealer is a couple of miles from them. If they cannot then it will wait till I can get some time of work.

Psyche. I dont know how to check the settings for coding. I have the scan from before and after, I'll post below.

After:

Address 47: Sound System Labels: 4E0-910-223.lbl
Part No SW: 4E0 910 223 P HW: 4E0 035 223 A
Component: DSP-Amp.-High H00 0460
Coding: 0000017
Shop #: WSC 02313 785 00200
VCID: 2A5F069BFC6F

Before:

Address 47: Sound System Labels: 4E0-910-223.lbl
Part No SW: 4E0 910 223 E HW: 4E0 035 223 A
Component: DSP-Amp.-High H00 0210
Coding: 0000017
Shop #: WSC 02313 785 00200
VCID: 1F49E74FB72D

Apart from the software version, they look the same.

Searching the internet, the number of people that have the same fault code on 47: sound system as my last one. None seem to mention issues with sound quality.

Go into the DSP module in VCDS, click on coding, and just check it against the options list. Worst case, just re-save what it has and see what it thinks.

re saving the existing code makes no difference, the error remains. I even checked adaption channel 96, which is coded correctly. Ran the very loud output tests and they are fine as well.

I have enabled the hidden system menu and turned the battery meter back on now though.

Thats exactly what mine was like after the MMI upgrade from a slightly younger version, VCDS showed a component protection error, but the sound was perfectly fine. I got it removed at the dealers for £70.

I need to go back to get the replacement instrument cluster sorted, so if anyone knows any cheaper dealers in kent......?
