Just checked the fuel pump this morning and ... nothing. Was going to check fuel delivery as shown in the Service Manual for the fuel supply system (on the Tech Dump) but as the drawing on P58 is different from what i see, i cannot identify which line is the fuel return hose and rather than start pulling stuff apart and given that it seems as if the pump is not working anyway I have decided to throw in the towel and my local garage is taking the car this pm. The fuel pump replacement/repair is beyond my time/capability at this moment in time.

That's strange. I thought it was working fine yesterday?

Whilst there was some pressure in the system when i removed the fuel filter, I didnt actually check the pump was operating yesterday to establish that it was pumping so it may have just been residual pressure.

Check the fuse for fuel pump or even better check with multimeter if there is power going to the pump (2 man job as it only runs pump for couple of seconds when ignition is turned on so one needs to turn ignition on while the other is measuring in the boot) before handing it over to the garage.

Sorry Ainars, the men in blue overalls came and took it away this afternoon...
I await the verdict.

I see our sponsor is offering a whole pump (fuel delivery unit) assembly for £199.99.

Not that I am trying to take business away from forum sponsors but you do not need whole fuel delivery unit unless it's been damaged or chopped by someone to fit non standard pump like 1 of my mates had on his. Besides that how long will 10+ years old second hand pump last? If it is pumps fault buy new VDO pump on it's own, should be around £120.

All you say is true Ainars and I had priced the pumps separately. I see that you can get a new VDO pump for around the price you mention with a secondary pump at around £95. I just need to hear what the problem actually is. But I was guessing that the problem is that the defect is not diagnosed further down than the delivery unit and that breaking the unit apart to repair/replace components is not the usual way of doing things.

What do you mean by secondary pump? There is only 1 electrical fuel pump, If you mean suction jet pumps in the tank they don't fail because there is nothing to fail, no moving parts no electrical parts.

I think I am getting confused by the two different pumps on the web offered as A8/S8 fuel pumps and my poor understanding of the system. My excuse is ignorance. Thanks for keeping me right, Ainars.
