I've sent you a PM, but please elaborate on how you feel the car has been 'neglected' as I don't want it to reflect badly on me when I've only let the very best specialists and genuine parts near that car. The only thing that happened once it left Ian's hands was improve, 4x Michelin pilot sport tyres (the most expensive available - not some budgets) it was detailed and the final S8 bits added. Ben changed the cambelt/watrerpump/thermo and did a service and full health check and it was sold straight after, iirc all it needed was brakes which I made the new owner fully aware of.

Back squarely onto the original topic of this thread..........

2. They are WICLIC connectors 1. I think the diversity unit is PURELY for radio diversity. There are several versions of 4D0 035 530 from the original with no suffix and then from A to F (at least). They are for use with different combination aerials covering a mix of radio (always?), GPS and TV. I think the basic function of ALL versions is to choose the best aerial for radio reception and feed that to the radio lead. If TV is involved the 4 TV aerials are effectively in "pass-through" mode, including quite likely phantom power to the aerials (and to run the unit) and TV diversity is handled in the TV tuner - that's why the TV variants have 4 in and 4 out (plus radio/GPS). So in the installation above I suspect that just reterminating the cables at the TV tuner would have sufficed - WICLIC to SMB adapters don't seem to exist. The only slight doubt I have on this is that the later model of diversity unit has a separate power supply so the later TV tuner may not provide the required phantom power feed up the aerial cable; easily tested though.

Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one! Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later) 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! Hi.
Sorry for bringing this topic back to life, but every now and then someone will follow this writeup. So, I have installed an RNS-E in an European (German import, now lives among polar bears) D2 from 1999/2000, but canbus isn't working with RNS-E. VCDS tells me from the instrument side that there is a one wire operation. The navi/radio tells me that canbus isn't working at all. I did tap into the green connector behind the instruments, low can on pin 21 (orange/brown) and 22 high can (orange/violet). Connected to RNS-E pin 9 (H) and 10(L) on power connector D. Originally there is a RNS-D installed, which is working as it should. Also, I cannot find any TMC module behind the instrument panel, only a "Telephone Module" 4D0919895c, with no antenna connections, nor any can-bus connections to or from. So where my TMC is located then, I dont know. I just cut the orange wires from pin 21 and 22, so the only thing connected was the RNS-E, but still no canbus connection between them. Anyone having any ideas that might help? The RNS-E is working as it should in an A6 with RNS-E already installed. |

>> I cannot find any TMC module behind the instrument panel,

Why do you think it is a "Telephone Module"? I'm surprised it wasn't connected to anything as your existing RNS-D worn't work properly without it. What other devices you have had on infotainment CAN other than RNS-D? If you connected RNS-E directly to instrument cluster pins with your own twisted pair you effectively bypassed all other infotainment CAN devices, leaving them disconnected from infotainment CAN. Edit: Oh now I see why you call it Telephone Module -- because of the sticker. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A8-4D-T...-/400460277578 I still claim this it TMC module regardless of sticker...

Also the 12 pin connector to this thing is all wired up. Means, it goes 12 wires to/from this thing. Anyway, I have bypassed all other devices on the infotainment CAN, yes, as you mentioned, leaving only the RNS-E connected. Still no luck. When connected to RNS-D, just all the original equipment like CDC, and a Version A tuner, but the tuner, of course is not connected to RNS-E, just wont fit but it might still be powered? Would this mess things up? Tuner should be connected to RNS-D can, not infotainment can, or does it have can at all? Im thinking out loud here, hence all the question marks. Edit: Ok, from the sticker, hehe, yes. This one you linked to, doesn't have any antenna connections... |

There are several versions of this module,
I guess the one with Telefon written on the side simply handled the phone to instrument cluster comms if the the car was original sold with a phone but no navigation system.
