Standard on the TDI - as the engines are so efficient they take too long to heat up, no such issue with the petrol models

You say that.....May be when the system is all working!!!
I've often found you need to do a few miles in petrol cars. I bought a plug in fan heater years back. I should have just burnt the tenner as i'd have got more warmth! And this remote pre-heat idea sounds awesome

Here is a guide to upgrading Aux heater to Parking heater - Luckily I saved the page as a PDF before the images went AWOL! Last edited by snapdragon; 23rd April 2020 at 08:18 AM. |

Is that right? and there was me thinking it was because the derv's were made out of heavy old cast steel that takes ages to warm up.

Hi There,
Just picked up a 4E0959617A - the A variant on ebay was about £60 and more importantly QUICK to get as it's cold and getting something in January messes with the Christmas travels! Am wondering if it's worth swapping solenoids or the pump motor as both look more accessible than the whole unit ??? Lee

There have certainly been (inconclusive?) discussions about swapping the motors on the D2 variant. Presumably when you have the spare in your hands you can see how easy that might be on a D3.

DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant. 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one! Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later) 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! |

I Have it in my hands. Just popped the solenoid covers off and swapping one of them would be easy. However the chances of it being failed solenoid is probably pretty slim. It doesn't really give access to the valve, more the valve actuator. You can press it up and down and see if it's stuck i guess. 5 bolt screws and one tapered as the two center ones are shared. Chance of loosing a screw, but that's probably the worst danger there!
The motor is two screws to get off. One is underneath and could be tricky whilst in the car, but also there's a mounting bracket with 4 of those carrots which probably means it supports the valve assembly, so it may be a case of it's easier to remove the valve to get to the motor.....Or maybe flexing it up may work. I'll have to investigate! Lee

To try and change the pump motor in-situ, probably best to remove the two 8mm? nuts below and retrieve them with a telescopic magnet tool or jam a shred of kitchen roll in the socket to make it a tight fit on the nut. You might then have enough slack to pull the whole assembly up or tilt it with pipes attached but I wouldn't count on it.
