Default playstation 3

I am thinking of installing a playstation 3 into my car so i can play games and watch blue-ray films. i already have a spare video and audio input from my rear seat entertainment. the question is how do i power it ? is an inverter the best way or can i buy a 12 volt supply for one ? also will the joypads work ok as they are wireless bluetooth ?

The joypads will work fine. The thing that would concern me is getting enough ventliation. PS3 are notorious for the YLOD (yellow light of death) which is thought to be a heat related condition combined with the lead free solder used in construction. I would guess an inverter would be the way to go for power.

ive been told its very difficult getting enough wattage from the 12v......

if you can cure this issue the ventilation is easy......

i too would like to do this, but have been told you cant power them as they are so power hungry.

some models are 250W, some 280W so 400w inverter should be plenty

Do you have HDMI in? I'm way out of touch with a PS2 slim then. I would have put the install on here but it consisted of throwing the PS2 in the glove box and taking all the cables to the back where the inverter lives on the floor plugged into the rear cig socket, 7” screen on the headrest (couldn’t get it to both screens) Job done.

There is an analogue video output too from the PS3 and Sony give you the cable for that one, but not the HDMI!

You should be able to tap in to the main power feeds to run it, but make sure you get something ignition switched, otherwise you'll kill the battery. Not sure if the PS3 has the same feature, but the Xbox lets you copy the game from the DVD to the HDD and play from there, just using the DVD initially to prove it's a pukka copy. May save the disk bouncing around in the unit while playing on the move.

The next stage of my playstation project is done.

1. Bought new 320gig slimline PS3

2. Bought spare power lead, AV lead

3. Bought 1m x 50mm velcro strip. As there is no vents on the bottom then i will just velcro it down in the boot.

4. Just waiting for new 500w( 1000w max) inverter to arrive from ebay.

Used power lead from house just to check if all is working ok in the car. Will wire all up when inverter arrives.

Once done i will be able to play games, play blue-ray films and be able to store over 300gig of music and films whenever i want. It will also be easy removable as it will only be fixed with velcro

That's quite cool, so are you going to let Mandy do the driving then or is the PS3 for the kids?
