Default HVAC Fault Codes

Before looking to replace the usual clicking motor, I did a test using the basic settings and then checked the fault codes. Can anyone tell me which motors these are and where I'll find them so that I can replace them?

Default I did try

I've just seen your post and thought that I'd be able to help. I have a copy of VirtualBox running Windows XP and the ELSAWIN service manual on my home server.

Unfortunately, I am unable to connect due to a PEW (Planned Engineering Works) but will check again when service is restored at 06:00

That would be a great help thanks. I've downloaded a service manual from here for the air conditioning but it's not obvious which location the motors are in.

If you remove the glovebox, and the transmission tunnel covers, they are all pretty tightly nested around the hvac unit.

Sometimes, you can feel them clicking if you hold it when its doing output tests.

Once you think you're close, unplug that one and do the test again - should be silence....

G113 is under the bonnet, on the end of the air box under the scuttle drain cover

Bought one last week from TPS as mine is showing the same fault. Just waiting for a replacement plastic drive gear for it as its not incl with a new motor but is only a couple of quid but on back order. Can't see me getting the old one off the motor undamaged!

Be warned it ain't cheap, but I couldn't see the point in replacing with a used one from a car that's most likely older and higher miles than mine.

Unfortunately the new ones aren't production date marked on the unit, only the box, so difficult to tell

Thanks for your answers. It sounds easy enough, just need the time and dry weather to tackle them all. Are they all usually the same motors or are they different ones depending on location?

Presumably the worst that will happen if I leave it for a while will be that I keep hearing the clicking noise and air won't always go where is meant to?!

If new ones aren't cheap from TPS then I'm sure the dealer will want more!

One's inside the car have an 'a' on the end of the pet number. The one in the engine bay is different and doesn't have the a suffix

Can look out part number and price when I'm home tonight? From memory £120

I think (if I remember correctly) that there are 4 motors on each side of the console, plus the other one that Adrian mentioned under the bonnet which seems to be a different part. Don't take this as gospel, but judging from all my rummaging around, the 4 motors seem to be similar. I ordered one from the forum sponsors in order to replace my faulty clicky-clicky unit.

Just like IT said, you can normally feel the clicking if you place your hand on each motor in turn if you're unable to echo locate it like a dolphin lol - that's exactly what I had to do in my case.

I have not had any issues with them on 8 so far but I had 3 of them fail on A6 1 shortly after another, first it was intermittent but gradually got worse. I don't think they are the same on 6 and 8 but very similar. I took them off to investigate and found that because they are sealed units they had a lot of carbon dust build up in side from the wear of carbon brushes. The brushes and slip rings were still in good condition, it's just that all the wear dust was either shorting out or preventing good connection. I cleaned them up, greased bearings and gears with fresh grease and re-assembled, worked as new since without any problems. So if they are £120 each new it might be worth checking to see if the old ones are serviceable. Or if you buy second hand it could be a good idea to give them overhaul before putting in the car.
