Maybe there isn't much point if the remote central locking can be overcome with a £40 gizmo!?

But I'd tend to agree, maybe not the best thing to have in clear sight!?

I know in my last Nissan Skyline there was a light wire 'rope' threaded through the boot lid and a plastic tab just visible on the top edge of the liner.
the idea was that you could pull the tab from the ski hatch and release the lid that way.
It did get use at least once when the wiring to the boot solenoid failed.
all you had to do was to remove the liner and clip it back in to place once the repair was complete to be used again if needed.
If I get the project on the road it might be a job I'll look in to (with a write up on here if it works!)

Excellent solution and guide. I wonder if the D3's will suffer similarly in years to come and need a similar fix.

Great info

I'm now considering making modifications to my boot lid, not to make it easier to get in to but to make it more secure!

Don't forget that posts are only view-able if you're logged in, which means there's a reasonable amount of effort involved in order to find the information.

We're interested in access with minimal damage - anyone looking to actually break in to a car is either going to smash a window or crowbar the boot open. They're highly unlikely to be drilling precision holes through the bootlid to achieve the same result.

Great info and neat solution without too much damage.

The D2 has an electric solenoid that is connected half way on a steel rod between the lock and key cylinder. Essentially one release mechanism via two different operational inputs.

The D3 has a servo motor directly on the lock that uses gears to release. Also there's a flexible steel cable from the key cylinder to lock to move a latch to release. Two separate mechanisms to release the lock. You'd have very bad luck if both failed.

hmm..

I just had a problem with my central locking again. Opened the boot with the keyfob (it was locked) Took apart the Central locking pump to find out the "normal" broken thing was indeed broken again..

So... i then put the rest of the trunk bits back together and left the pump unconnected and closed the boot.

The second i closed it, something told me that this was not a good idea.. I also forgot my phone inside.. luckily i managed to get a hold of that via the ski hatch.

So i better start drilling, as long as this also works when the lock is in "locked mode"?

I'm not able to open with key due to it bein seized..

I had a similar issue on my S4, I got brave and with a good squirt of WD40 and a pair of mole grips on the key it opened fine and totally freed it off.

I figured it was 50:50 as to if the key would just snap off - but worked out for me

Thanks Sergey. I did the job this morning and tested it with the boot closed. It works a treat!

Just need to get a rubber grommet.

And just in case you're wondering, yes, that is blue sky and sunshine reflected in the boot lid!

Good job . Could you confirm that the newly drilled hole also opens the boot when its not only closed, but locked?

Appreciate it
