Default Scott's Akoya Silver A8

I like the idea of build or progress threads of cars.
It gives me a record of what I've done and I can help others with their faults or ideas on what to do with.
So here's one for my 06 3.0TDI A8 in Akoya Silver.

Bought privately from a bloke in wales with full Audi Service history minus the one that he did last month.
I'm going to pop to Audi in the coming weeks and check for any recalls, updates and see how much they want for servicing as I'd like to carry on the history is possible.

The paper work was a little bit thin with the car apart from the MOTs and plate transfers.

01/2013 - Paint correction done on the rear wings both sides, roof repaired near the windscreen and a new windscreen fitted under warrant.
08/13 - Drivers outer trim halfway up replaced.
08/13 - New number plates and holders.
12/13 - New body molding and Diag of fault hand break. New calliper and electrical setup required.
02/14 - New calliper and break pads all rounds.

Current list of things to repair:
1, Rear passenger footwell heater.
2, Passenger rear door speaker cover is cracked.
3, Passengers side rear blind trim won't stay down.
4, The auto rear boot needs a helping hand for the first inch then it takes over.

Two pics of the car at the moment.
I'll get better once its been cleaned.

Hi Scott, you may be able to fix the auto boot motor yourself like I did, check here: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6323

Alternative is to buy new motor for around £500...

Thanks audifin.
I'll have a look at that when I got time.

First time walking to the car at night and noticed the passenger exterior door handle illumination has stopped working.
I used that door to open the car, so don't know if it's anything to do with that.
I've not noticed it before.

First time since looking at the car I've been able to have some alone time with the car, a proper dig and VCDS scan time.

First, up some fault codes that I had when I got back from Bristol.

005658 - Glowplug for Cylinder 1 (Q10)
P161A - 001 - Open Circuit

001025 - EGR System
P0401 - 002 - Insufficient Flow

02126 - Central Locking Button; Exterior Door Handle
008 - Implausible Signal

00190 - Driver's Door Handle Touch Sensor (G415)
007 - Short to Ground

00192 - Rear Left Door Handle Touch Sensor (G417)
007 - Short to Ground - Intermittent

00668 - Supply Voltage Terminal 30
002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

00066 - Rear Right Footwell Heater (Z43)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent

00065 - Rear Left Footwell Heater (Z42)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent

01303 - Telephone Transceiver (R36)
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

01300 - Control Module for Navigation with CD-Rom (J401)
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

01598 - Drive Battery Voltage
002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

02111 - Motor for Window Regulator
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

02126 - Central Locking Button; Exterior Door Handle
008 - Implausible Signal

02256 - Quiescent Current
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

02272 - Quiescent Current Stage 1
000 - - - Intermittent

Cleared all fault codes and only two came back.
00190 - Driver's Door Handle Touch Sensor (G415)
007 - Short to Ground
02126 - Central Locking Button; Exterior Door Handle
008 - Implausible Signal
I'll do another full scan tomorrow after a little drive.

I'll take a look at the two that came back but it looks like its just connection issues?

Having a look around the boot sides I noticed this cable going down through the rear air vents.

The HPI check came back saying it has a tracker, it could be that.
I need to phone the tracker company to make sure but anyone got any ideas?

The tool kit is looking a little sparse and needs filling up.

I've got what I think is a Audi detachable two bar but I don't know where it is mean to go for storage.
What am I missing?

There is also this connection in the glove box. I've been told that it could be a Dension 500 gateway kit but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm?

It works fine with the iPod but I'm not sure how the USB or RCS connection works but I'll have more playing about with that later.

There is a couple of little bits I need to pick up over the coming weeks but mainly I need to give it a good clean.

Looks like a dension kit in the glovebox.

For the tow bar, you're missing the polysterene basket thingy that goes around the screw for the spare wheel, which holds the towbar itself plus some other bits (have you got the key for it?)

Bit of a crap tracker installation as that cable is very obviously aftermarket.

The door sensors are probably failed, though you may be lucky.

Key?
I looked at the bar it self and there no sign of a lock.
A8 Parts should have a spare basket and bits i'm missing from the boot?

That's if its for the tracker but what ever it is for, its a ****e install having it like that.

Sensors expensive?

I don't think the door sensors are comically expensive, but I've never done one, they are a 'door apart' job though.

If the tow ball doesn't have a key/lock, then it's not the factory job, and that could be where the wiring comes from/goes.

That's a thought.

I'll double check it later.
I noticed the Audi logo on the ball cap but that could be got from anywhere.
The electrics fold up and down, I've not seen that before on a aftermarket unit.

Some aftermarket ones do fold up and down.

Got under the car had a look at the tow bar.

Its a genuine Audi bar but the ball is a westfalia unit (how ever you spell it).
No biggy, it clips and works, I'm happy but I would like the proper holder for it.
Its currently rattling around the spare wheel.
