So is there like an additional free space for a metal cable with crimped on thingy on the latch? Or more like a string tied to the lever?

Hi,
just a bit of coated wire tied to the latch and fished through to the wheel arch on the drivers side and in the centre inside of the grill for the passenger side latch.

Hopefully I'll never need to use either. What a ball ache when the release cables break.

Cheers

I believe there is a solution that adds emergency release wires at the junction box rather than the latches. These can then be fed through into the wheel arch.
See attached image for location.
