Question Fun 4-seat convertible...?

Another question for you:

Am intent on getting a 4 seater convertible, preferably RWD and manual, to supplement the S8. Budget probably up to about £15k, but not challenging it much, because no matter what I look at, I keep being drawn back to the E46 M3.

Any other options?

rear wheel drive doesn't leave many options these days - 4 seats as well pretty much leaves you with BMW or Merc choices. I genuinely can't think of another brand!

4WD opens up S4/RS4 options with manual, but £15k probably means S4 only.

E46 M3 all day long, and you can get a very decent one for well under budget.

Let me know if you need a link to M3 Cutters forum, or PM me for Buyer's Guide link as there are a couple of absolute must check items on E46s

Yes please - could do with some buying advice. Something about rear strut / suspension mounts being vunerable...?

Would prefer 18" wheels as well....not least because the wife likes visiting the odd kerb in a confrontational sort of way...

S4 is tempting, but I don't believe fulfills the "fun" requirement. I want to learn to drive RWD properly...

My user name there is Steve Sarg - apologies for providing links to a non-Audi forum, trust this is okay in this case?

The main issue is cracks appearing in the rear subframe - BMW will repair these FOC up to 10 years old, but either way, you should definitely have this checked out before committing to purchase, better still is to find one that's already had the floor repaired and reinforced.

There are always plenty of cars for sale on the forum, and most of these are well looked after. I'd definitely recommend looking first at the owner's cars that have good project threads on them, more detailed than a service history in most cases. Right now there are 5 Verts up for sale between 9-10k although they're all a bit older, 2002-03.

Most will have 19" wheels, but again, there are always plenty of wheels up for sale, swapping to 18"s you can probably even make a profit along the way.

Plenty of indy specialists out there, so no problems finding somebody good to look after it.

Finally, don't expect a forum anything like this one - whilst there is plenty of good quality technical info around, there are also a lot of argumentative kno8heads, don't say I didn't warn you!

This looks to be a nice one with good recent history if you don't mind the semi-auto g'box.
