Default 4L V8 Audi Oil Strainer recall

Your probably aware that the 4L V8 engines can suffer from catastrophic oil starvation to the turbo's.
This is because Audi fitted a filter so fine that it quickly blocks resulting in the need for new turbo's. Not a cheap job at about £10k.
Anyway, long story short. Following Audi USA agreeing to replace these oil strainers with a less blockable version I have been on a mission with Audi UK. And I'm happy to confirm, in line with other reports, that Audi UK now going to install the updated oil strainers under recall. Phew!

I must say the customer facing people at Audi UK are pretty damned appalling. Their responses fail to address any questions raised and give every impression that no time is taken to actually read the inquiry before launching into total denial and shutting down any further conversation.

I don't like to be one of those people accusing 'big business' of employing cynical tactics, but my experience here supports that conclusion. Sad.

Meanwhile I'd suggest that anyone who had already carried out this work, or had to replace their turbo's, gets onto Audi and seeks recompense for their outlay.

Here's the email I eventually received:

to me

Dear Mr Hoar

Thank you for contacting Audi UK.

I have checked under your chassis number WUAZZZ4H1HN900392 of any outstanding recalls. I can confirm there is one outstanding recall for Replacing oil strainer. You can get the vehicle booked in at your local Audi Centre and you will not be charged.

Thank you for your time and patience.

Kind regards

Well done Nick - a short post by you, which I suspect might be a bit like an iceberg, with a lot more under the surface that we've not seen.

I'm sure it took a lot of persistence from you with Audi UK to get anywhere - one of the (many) reasons I'll never buy another one....

Well done Nick.
I've been off line for a few days but back in the fold now.

Glad to see your back Ray. Have you got your motor booked in for this work yet?
