Ooops!
Having put a bid on this before the airbag issue surfaced, I'll soon be the proud owner of an R8 steering wheel...
 I wonder if the airbag can be swapped for one (the same size) which is compatible with the previous generation cars...

Hi There,
You won it....£400 all in. Thats pretty Good...I'd have been very tempted if it would work with mine and i'd have gotten steering wheel controls. Its the one downside to the car at the moment.....Although i've also swapped the stereo so there would have been some fudging at the other end needed too. Alas the neat trick of an ir steering wheel remote like i had in my BMW doesn't seem to want to work well as the angle from the steering wheel and stereo don't mate up nicely http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/kcarc700.asp cya, Lee

Yes, I won it!
but I don't think it will turn out to be an expensive mistake as, if the airbag isnt compatible with the D2 and/or it cant be swapped for one that is, I'm sure it will be of interest to someone with a D2 or the likes of B7/B8 S4/RS4 or C6 RS6 owners...
so...anyone know of a compatible airbag that would fit?

Interesting and looks promising
Basically, if this guy knows what he's talking about (and does appear to), the 2 stage airbag can be wired up to activate just the one (secondary) stage. Although this comment made me laugh "Of course I didn't attempt driving into a brick wall to test it but ECU is fine with that connection and doesn't show any errors so I will assume that it is working" Can you see the pics or is it just me...??

I'm certainly not going to do this without taking professional advice as obviously this particular part could potentially be a life saver...!
My preference would be a single stage airbag, compatible with the D2 wiring, with the same fit and appearance as the one it comes with.

So what do we think then...?
A few pics of the original and R8 wheel...
   The electrics are of course not connected, but it does feel lovely to drive. I'm just not sure if it suits the D2...

That deffently suits it, i'm sorry but the old one was rank with that four spoke.. maybe in an A8 but not an S8. R8 looks the muts. On my list of mods now, or might get an RS 4 one..
