Default Dipped beam out on Xenon's !!!!

Hi guys,

Need some help please......

I have a 2002 Audi S8

My front drivers side xenon (dipped beam) isn't working. My car has the xenon / halogen lights not the xenon plus arrangement !

So effectively the low beam is the xenon part as the high beam is the halogen part.

The bulb warning light came up on the dash indicating a problem. Drove the car later again that day and the bulb lit. Next morning and everyday since not working at all. Tried changing the bulb front left to right so the bulb is ok.

I'm assuming its the ignitor. Could anyone confirm my suspicions, and even tell me if possible where to find it on the car and how to fit it ? Is it part of the ballast or a separate item ?

Any help would be very much appreciated !

Ricky !

I'm pretty sure there's only really 2 parts, the ballast and the bulb.
My PF S8 has "standard" main beams and "Xenon" (HID) dipped too; the ballast is just bolted onto the back of the headlamp unit.

I say "just" but it's a swine to get off and you have to do that to replace the main-beam or sidelight bulb if either fails; definitely an afterthought bit of design - are yours like that?
And it's also covered in safety warnings - dealer only etc. etc.

I needed help to get at mine and on the drivers side the air filter had to come out first to give access.
Of course, being 4 years later yours might be different.

I've got exactly the same problem!

No dip on the n/s is not working, but main beam works ok.

Swopped bulbs over, both bulbs work ok on the o/s and neither on the n/s.

Problem occurred a few months ago, fixed it with a 'thump' on the light cover.

So....I'm glad I never bought a bulb, but what is it that's not working?

(A clue? The box inside is white on the faulty side and black on the good side) maybe not a clue?

On the facelift the ballast is under the headlight itself, i had to remove the headlight from the car altogether in order to get at it, its a stand alone box its not attached to the headlight itself its just plugged into the loom, remove the air box un bolt the light itself, remove the small painted trim under the headlight itself, then unscrew the other bolts, now the tricky part is that to take out the lights with out messing with the bumper you will have to take off all the little lense clips around the head light to split it in two before removal then unclip the indicator that is just an anticlockwise turn and it will pop out then it will come out nicely reverse order for the reinstall, and for the passenger side exacly the same - the air box i recently removed both of mine to install a set of DRL lights
