Repair kit now on order from Audi, the computer was only showing one in stock at Audi UK so hopefully I will get it tomorrow. He did say that there may not be any more available in the future as its quiet an old part.

One advantage of the stealer network is that they have depth. Last August I needed a part for the turbo. Shown as out of stock in the UK, but a new one arrived from Germany within 5 days direct to my local non-main dealer specialist. I guess this will happen more often as my car is now 15 years old.

Got the repair kit from Audi, its sitting in front of me on my desk. The kit cost £14 inc. VAT, quiet a lot for a couple of bits of plastic, couple of screws and 2 captive nuts.

Funny thing, when I ordered it I quoted the part number, my name and payment details. Collected today, and the preprinted invoice has my name, part details and vehicle reg number along with the chassis details which I did not provide either to the dealer. Both are correct, so I wonder where they get the details from. VIN they can get from the reg. number, but where did they get that from.

Not from Audi no, but I have bought from BMW and Mercedes dealers in the past with similar pricing.

Then either somebody followed you in the car park after ordering to check your registration or checked CCTV. Definitely weird.

This is the weird thing, I ordered over the phone and it was the first time I walked through the door today. I have only owned the car since the new year, only thing I can think of is that I had some work done at VASWorks in Poole and they sourced some parts from there (cambelt kit, several suspension arms), maybe they used my name and registration to get them and that got me on their system.

Well its all sorted now. Repair kit installed onto the light, and light refitted. I managed to work out how the bust trim attachment was affixed once the headlight was back on properly, a little more epoxy resin to hold this back together and jobs done.

When I am back in Hertfordshire in a few weeks, I'll get my friendly garage to sort the alignment and possibly put the car in for its MOT at the same time and place.
