Default W12 Bank Identification

Hey all,

I need to Identify which banks are which on the W12 engine.

I will be replacing the Cam sensor on Bank 3 at the weekend, but I just can't find any reliable information on which bank is located where?

Any help would be amazing.

Thanks

Nick

ELSA, the factory repair guide, lists the W12 as two banks. Which is correct, 2 banks of 6 in VR config. Left is passenger, right is driver on a RHD.

I guess you're reading a fault with VCDS. It may list a sensor number beginning with G. Or post the fault code.

It does indeed have two banks split left and right, but also four (confusing I know and this is where it gets tricky) where each bank is split in to two.

There are four camshaft sensors and they live on Bank 1, Bank 2, Bank 3 and Bank 4.

Bank 3 is the failed on on mine but trying to work out which one this is has been driving me mad lol

The VCDS says Bank 3, part number is the same for all banks so doesn't help.

Can you see each of the sensors on the engine? If so, what about disconnecting one and running a scan on the engine, and in theory it should throw an error for that sensor, indicating which bank it is. Repeat the process on all four sensors or until you've identified the culprit.

Not confusing or tricky, I know my way around an engine. The cam arrangements on the W12 are no different to a Vee with an inlet and exhaust cam per bank and features timing retardation. Post the fault code if you want further help in the future.
