Yes - went in and cleared all the old faults after fitting the new shock - have not yet done the adaptation but will tomorrow - along with installing the new relay.

Jeez I'm getting frustrated with this thing!

This morning I struggled to get the anti-roll bar reconnected to the suspension, just like with the other side. Eventually, with judicious use of the jack and some blocks under the hub/disc I got it in there.

Then it was the turn of the bolts that go into the top of the strut - on the W12, the rearmost one is UNDER the coolant tank / brake servo, so it's damned near impossible to get a socket onto it without getting it cross-threaded. took 2 hrs of fiddling with various tools, dropping the strut out as far as I could, etc. to get it done up.

So far, so good.

fired her up - still no options in the MMI but car is raised and seems much better on a short test drive - head off to local shopping mall car park (nice and level - also out of the sun!) to run adaptation - DAMN, right side isn't holding pressure - drops straight back down.

Now please bear in mind that a) I'm doing this on the street in 40 degree temps as I can't get a jack under the car in my garage - need to put wheels up on kerb to do so.

LF wheel off again - check new control valve - one of the lines won't tighten up fully (you guessed it - right front) seems it's cross-threaded. Tried umpteen times to redo it without cross threading - not happening. Remove new control valve and refit old one - start her up and...

This is where I am now - don't know what to try next.

Could this be the relay? I fitted the new one the parts guy sold me but it's not the same as the one I removed.

I REALLY don't want to give up on this and take it to the stealers but am now pretty well stuck.

Did you ever find where the stray wire was supposed to go ?.

Parts are often supersceded, but usually a firmware type revision - I'd expect it to physically look the same, with the same connections etc ?

I guess the MMI will burst back into life once the adaptation is done...

If you have a line that won't tighten up and is leaking it is going to throw all sorts of errors up, the compressor will be working its socks off trying to keep up and will be running too hot.
Do you not have an indie in your area who could advise?

G291 looks like a pressure sender, presumably to let the ECU know how much pressure is currently in the tank, and whether or not to run the compressor.

3 simple wires, all direct from the ECU - Brown, Red/Black and Blue/Green.

If this is disconnected, faulty, missing or has broken wires, I imagine it would all stop working as it couldnt know how much air it has ?

It is a direct connection to the ECU, no relays, connections or anything in between....

There is a comrpessor relay, but its a simple, single pole relay which is used to take the relitively low power output from the ECU and switch on the 4.0mm power supply to the compressor. Wrong relay, or no relay = no compressor run..... Fused at 40 amps.... Thats some drain !

Otherwise, the airsuspension system looks (electrically speaking) incredibly simple.

All 4 shockers connect directly back to the ECU for signals, as do the level senders and the damper adjustment valves.

There are 3 other sensors, again directly connected for acceleration (presumably so it doesnt adjust to body roll through regular G forces) and other than that, 2 simple wires off the ECU connect it via canbus to the rest of the car.

It really is a very simple, self contained system - So, I'd be looking at whats going on with that pressure sensor, its wiring and plugs as it sounds vital to me...

Ok - been and swapped out the old control valve for the new one again (I'm SURE it's not cross-threaded this time!) - system is alive - to the extent that it lifts but still not in MMI.

Also removed the new relay (4H0951253A) and put the old one (8D0951253A)back. (Damn, they make these things awkward!)

Ran an adaptation cycle - FR is very low - no leak at control valve end, will need to get the wheel off and check the shock end again. Interestingly, the module is NOT reporting a leak!

Faults gone from module - nothing thrown up but MMI still showing nothing. Will need to take her down to the car park again to adapt on the level once the laptop's recharged.

NO

From what I've managed to find, it appears that the sensor is an internal part of the control valve - the old one seems to have failed while OFF the car!

To answer a few more questions...

Yes and no - I did find one that claims to specialise in VW/ Audi but they actually quoted me 20% MORE than the main dealer to change a shock! The other problem out here is that it really is cowboy city - not just used but FAKE parts and you can bet they have no clue about the electrical systems!

WOOHOO !

Finally - it's done.

Went back to the RH front shock, removed the valve connection, replaced with another one (and new O-ring) - SHE WORKS! No leaks, no faults. Completed adaptation cycle and went for a test drive - all is good - except for the still missing MMI control. I was going to try 47p2's suggestion of disconnecting the battery but will give it a day or two first to see if she comes out of her hissy fit! The last thing I want to do now is fry a module or two!

Thanks to all for their help - again!

In the meantime, if anyone has any more ideas how to get the MMI controls back........

Thanks again to all who have helped!
