Coolant temp a steady 105 Deg?
So when I re did my cam belt 200 miles ago I replaced everything cam belt related to also include a new thermostat. I hope I did not bite myself by purchasing a Mahle Behr Thermostat (supposedly 82 degrees C) over an OEM one.
Using the recirculate and Up button on the Hvac I have been monitoring my coolant temps. The temp will rise to 105 - 110 degrees while on the freeway and then settle back down to 99 - 101 degrees while at idle. I have never seen the temps get over 112 degrees. I know this is way too hot, it is supposed to sit around 93 degrees. All I can think is that it is a thermostat, clog, or air bubble in the air system. I do not think it is a sensor issue. Heat blows fine thru the hvac system, and there are no codes in the hvac. Any ideas? Thanks in advance..

Yes however, that is for the new 2005+ engines. I have a 2003 belt 4.2. It does not have the electric thermostat like that FSI one.
This is me: http://www.kpematop.com/S6/V8-5VEngine.pdf

Do you have access to a digital thermometer so you can take readings straight off the engine before you go down the route of pulling it to bits.
Just wondering if the sensors borked.

I do have a type K thermocouple wire I can use on my dmm. Where should I probe?

in the coolant stream would be good but can you get it on the block close to the thermostat?

I may be able to put it on the metal thermostat housing

aha , always a good idea to state exactly what you have http://www.cpp.edu/~bvnorum/ebahn/c5...drain_fill.pdf but according to this you should WARM the engine to around 100 when filling or topping up , which still suggests to me that that is the correct tick over temperature , and that the only difference with the later engine is that it doesn't have the anti knock temperature reduction programme personally I would still be content with what you have , but you pay your money and make your choice ! |

I am just concerned because it is only 16 degrees here and high coolant temps. What happens when it is summer you know? I do all the work myself thank god or I would be broke haha
I did not follow that bleed procedure verbatim, so I will repeat those steps
