Default Mini Caravans

Went to a classic steam fair couple of months ago and got talking to the people at Retro Trailers.

It stirred something in me and ever since I've been looking at trailers and mentally designing my own style of mini caravan.

I've still got a long way to go before I start building it. I need a trailer, finish off my other projects and convince the wife to let me build the workshop/garage with hard standing at the bottom of the garden.
But in the mean time I can read up and do some research mini caravans.

With such an eclectic bunch of people on this site I thought I would see if anyone has built their own trailer or caravan before or even own a mini caravan?

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Sod that, what you need is one of these

I do like the teardrop trailers, prefer the plywood ones though as they are more organic and warm looking and selfbuild friendly.

Some nice ideas on this thing too

Haha, I can't really see that doing very good MPG to Italy lol

I would not want to do an ally one.
Looking more in to the tear drop ones, the bending of the wood is a lot of effort and can fail, I'm tempted to not go for curved. Rather go for something that's square cause its easier to build.

The UEV-440. Been looking at their videos and I've changed my Design a couple of times because of them.

I like the pull out kitchen but the runners, pipe and cables could make it complicated for me so I'm tempted to stick with the rear kitchen like the tear drops.

You can buy a lot of hotel rooms for the price of one of those trailers

This is something I've toyed with doing as well. I've got absolutely no need for one but just fancied another project.

There's some good stuff in this thread pinched from another forum I'm on:

Holy thread bump Batman.

Good to my word, I did indeed build a miniature caravan which I finished a few years ago. I still have it and use it and I posted a full build thread here:
