Remember how the Murple's mangled gearbox was missing its sump magnets?

I found one of them stuck to the torsen diff

I've dismantled the tail section of the dead gearbox to fit the casing to the PF's gearbox in order to solve the broken brackets, so this bit will get cleaned up and swapped over.

I don't claim to know anything about the inside of the gearbox , question is how do you think in made its way in there ,then final question is was there normally 2 sump magnets and if so were do you think the second ones gone

Further investigation has revealed that there is a slot in the casing for a magnet in the rear diff housing so I suspect that the magnet fell out of the slot while I've been moving around the dismantled bits of the gearbox, and it stuck to the nearest steel thing which was the torsen diff. The three from the ATF sump are still missing.

Certainly whoever 'rebuilt' the murple gearbox never bothered opening the rear casing or replacing the bearings as they are very loose.

The torsen housing coming off the PF box:

Nice clean torsen. You can see the slot for the magnet directly at the bottom of the casing. The magnet is still in place in this one.

PF end housing on the left, murple housing on the right. You can see the two bosses on the right hand one which have been broken off the left hand one.

320k mile never-opened casing with bearings and spur gears removed.

100k mile probably-opened casing with the bearings still in place. These will all be swapped in to the murple's casing and reassembled.

What's the hall effect sensor and sensor ring on the Torsen diff for? Not Speedo is it?

Output speed measurement by the TCU, to make sure that input rpm and gear selection are giving the expected result.

When the gearbox fails and throws a 'gear ratio incorrect' code, its the reading from this sensor that allows the TCU to determine that something is wrong in the clutch packs.

Found the file but I guess there is no much need now that you have manual ECU.

Not sure why it says 380HP when stock is 340, maybe it's a tuned file also it does seem a too big of an increase or maybe just a typing mistake. It's been a very long time so do not remember details.

Cleaned up the torsen housing

Swapped the bearings and spur gears over

New gasket - amazingly, this was in stock at Milton Keynes so came overnight

The output flange should have a rubber gasket. Bizarrely, whoever put this gearbox back in used silicone sealant instead

Thats better

Torsen housing back together

Flipped it over and primed the oil pump with new Mannol AG52 oil. I did the filter as well but forgot to get a pic.

Nearly-new sump

Where the magnets should be

Sump back on and oily bits finished

Engine and gearbox reattached at last. I don't have engine mounting brackets for the 32V so the engine is sitting on carefully calibrated lumps of carbon-foam composite

Good job you explained that as to the untrained eye it just looks bits of pallets

Replacement starter cable compared to the original

Once the starter was back on I filled the engine with oil and spun it over with the magic box until it got oil pressure

One of these is not like the others The short coil is the right part number but from a different batch to the others so it has been replaced at some point, but had the wrong spark plug connector attached to it. Surprisingly the engine seemed to run fine, even though this coil wasn't touching the plug

Luckily I have a box of spare coil packs so replaced the short one with the correct part

Spark plugs and coil packs back in.
