With the HP2 brakes I would say its the prime reason yes. It has made much more difference to Big Red than it did to my S8 with Brembos.

I don't need to wait for a long term test. If you can get some made out of ally I'll take one as soon as available. If I don't like it, I'll just take it off. Simples!

although i would add to the design so that it also wedges against the bulkhead to stop it from flexing even more Last edited by Ronin; 27th October 2020 at 09:03 PM. |

I meant a long term test of the plastic one. I don't want to wait for that either
The bulkhead can be moved by hand so I don't think that would help tbh, but I will investigate. Its actually bending the strut brace up though, not forwards so unless one were to drill holes in the bulkhead and bolt the block in it wouldn't add much. Its in to diminishing returns at that point chasing another 5-10% improvement for 5-10x the cost. The current design is pretty simple to machine, therefore fairly cheap. As complexity is added, so is CNC time therefore price, whereas a 3D printer doesn't really care. |

FWIW, the plastic version I made earlier in the week which was installed with a tiny bit of preload had distorted enough to have no preload 48 hours later when I replaced it with this version last night
This is the final version which is being prototyped in aluminium next week. Expect a purchase price of £30 per unit inc UK shipping. There's a slight gap at the top right because the bar isn't actually parallel - it tapers slightly towards the strut top. The block is a snug clearance fit on the bar though, and has 0.5mm preload. This is the best I can do regarding the cover. It mostly fits, but to achieve any more clearance would compromise the strength of the block and therefore its function. The cover may sit further down with some trimming around this area |

The aluminium prototype is in and fitted first time. I could feel a difference straight away compared to the plastic one, and lurched to a rather abrupt halt at the first junction I encountered! I think the brakes on Big Red are now as sharp as on my A6
This is cut on a water jet so gives a nice sandblasted finish: There is a slight interference with the cover panel here with which I shall be tinkering shortly to see if a bit of a trim will allow it to sit flat. I have started a separate thread for a Group Buy here |
