Yet more questions about MMI and AMI Versions
Hi all,
Just got my first Audi A8 and would like to add an Ipod connection and also add 3D Map capability. I understand that I need to update my MMI version as it's v0900 which appears to be old and would not support AMI but also won't support the 3D Maps. I realise I need to update the maps to get the 3D but I think I also need to update MMI. So I need to update the MMI version...how? I've read that this can be problematic and that you shouldn't always jump from an old version (like mine) to the latest version as this causes problems. Also read that some component will be locked out and you need VAGCOM etc to unlock again after the upgrade. So I'm starting at version 0900: I have managed to get hold of the following versions: 3460 4220 5150 5570 6030 Should I jump to the latest version i.e. 6030? Should I step through some of the others first? Any help would be great. Scotty |

If you're in the UK, go with 5570 and you should be able to go straight there.. run the CDs a couple of times to make sure everything's done.
6030 was for Eastern Europe if I remember rightly.

Thanks for the quick response. Will I have problems where I need a vagcom to unlock things like the battery and instrument cluster?

Before you start its a good idea to plug your battery into a charger.
During the upgrade process you are warned no to switch anything on or off, and your battery may well give up before the upgrade completes. Tell us about your new motor. And pictures, the more the better

I'd not bother with the battery meter, it doesn't work anyway
But yes you need VCDS for those.

A charger should hold the voltage enough though. If in doubt plug in VCDS and monitor the voltage on the engine module.

Run the engine during the process and turn off everything else.
Surely the reason the Audi dealership notes advise a battery charger is because they are in a workshop and the service manager would rather pay 50p for running the charger than £3 for using client's petrol?

But when after an hour or so you need to pee. Leaving your car sitting there on the drive with the motor running....
