Is the D3 lead different?
I think that's why IT sold me his D2 lead

Maybe that's a question for the VCDS section?

I have no idea where the D3 socket is, D2 is under the ashtray.

Blimey this has now gone mad. HP, thanks for the offer but I have all 4 kids this weekend so it'll have to be a no.

I'll just use the '03 disc for next week and when I next have the car serviced I'll ask the chappie what he can do.

Ah but 3 are from Marlene (aka wife Mk1) and the baby is from W2.0 so there are complications.

You could try disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes

How will that help? Will I have to eject the disc as soon as I reconnect to beat the MMI to it?

With the battery disconnected it sometimes sorts out glitches in electrical items. My MMI would not work a few weeks ago, it completely dead and I tried the re-boot procedure, still nothing, so disconnected the battery and re-connected it after 20 minutes and everything has been fine since.

Apparently it's an anti theft issue in the VCDS that should be released at PDI but never appears to be (originally locked to stop current-year nav discs being stolen in transport).
