Seems a fair price for the work so will bear in mind

Always good to see the price holding on these, I keep thinking of replacing mine with a D3 S8 but finding one to replace the D2 isn't going to be easy.

For a well looked after example i'd say between 5.5k - 6k they are worth that all day!

This looks like a good price for a manual

To add my two penneth.

Spec, condition and history are important, but I've found mileage seems to be the big deciding factor on the D2's.

Based on a conservative 10k / year, your youngest 2002 examples would be having an average of 170K on the clock, which I struggle to see achieving much over the 3K mark, if in exceptional condition.

You then get a chunk of 120K -> 170K cars which do a bit better.

The 100K -> 120K are high miles by most peoples standards, but given their ages, is a low average mileage and getting far more desirable.

And sub 100K, your definitely looking at collectors who will pay considerably more.

So, to answer the initial question about gearbox repairs - In my opinion it depends entirely on the mileage. If the car is a high miler, I suspect expecting to profit, or even break even from a quality refurb on the gearbox could be optimistic......
