Thank you for the explanation

I don't have a crypto wallet. Not that I don't believe the value will increase.
I have already looked at specialised miners, and at some of the wallets out there.
It is probably true one has to actually experience this, to understand it properly.
But my intuition doesn't trust the crypto currencies. And I do trust my intuition

And indeed you shouldn't. In fact the cryptocurrency space is littered with scams so you do have to be careful. Even genuine cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin, are still very much at the experimental stage; I wouldn't recommend anyone to invest their life's savings or any more than they can afford to lose. Having said that, the Bitcoin network has so far proven to be resilient and secure enough to protect over 50 Billion Dollars of funds, despite years of attacks and attempted hacks. Of course that's largely thanks to the decentralised nature of the currency -- unlike the traditional banking system there's no central point of attack.

Updated Nice Hash miner today to 1.8.1.1, well actually first to 2.0.0.12 but that only wanted to mine on CPU then to 1.8. 1.8 has more algorithms than 1.7 and now 2x GTX1080Ti are mining skunk which I did not have before with jump from £4.3/day to £6.3. Don't know what it changed in terms of of power consumption as the meter is in another circuit at the moment.

Cool

I've been holding off updating until the new version was confirmed stable. Time to give it a try I think ....

A quick check shows that there are no benefits for AMD cards, Dagger Hashimoto is still the most profitable. but a welcome increase for nVidia cards.

On another note 4GB RX570 does just as good as 8GB RX580. I was thinking 8GB would be better for future proofing when DAG file goes over 4GB but with the Ethereum possibly switching from POW to POS it might be wiser to buy RX570 for £200 instead of RX580 for £300. I do have 5x RX 580 on pre-order but need to think if I want to cancel them and order some RX570 instead.

And the L3+ income has dropped in terms of BTC but as the BTC has gone up in price it has not changed much in GBP. Let's hope it does not change much before I get mine.

Yeah, let's hope those L3s ship soon. I'm hoping we might get a shipping notification before the end of the month ... sometimes they do ship a little earlier than expected.

I've just switched to NiceHash 2.0 on my latest rig. It's seeing all the cards no problem (4 x 1080Ti + 1 x RX 480) and it gave me the option to CPU mine too. Certainly has a nicer and more modern GUI and it's good that they've got an installer now. Not sure if the algorithms it's selecting are performing any better though. Bit early to tell .... probably about the same so far.

Interesting, 2.0 did not see any GPU's on mine at all. Skunk(Signum) payout has dropped sharply but at least a bit of competition has pushed prices up a little bit for others, Equicash is earning quite a bit more now than in the morning. Nice Hash miner itself is just a user GUI and a selection tool for algorithms so it will not give any more performance by itself, it's just that going from 1.7 to 1.8 introduced a fair bit of new algorithms for me and one of them happened to be a lot more profitable for me at the time when I switched.

Finally got around to finishing and photographing my latest mining rig.

My aim was to make something robust, easily repeatable, stackable and (reasonably) compact. I intended it as a 4-card rig but I've squeezed a 5th card into this one for now, which is pushing it a bit on a single 1200W PSU. There's room for a second PSU though if necessary.

It's relatively portable and easy to carry (guessing it probably weighs about 15Kg). The black acrylic sheet panels give it a little protection and, along with the rear (filtered) fans, help to project most of the heat forwards to allow it to be used as a space heater.

I've also added a WiFi adaptor to enable it to be used anywhere there's a power outlet. I expected poorer performance mining over WiFi but there seems to be negligible difference compared with Ethernet. I do have 3 UniFi WAPs in the house though so that probably helps.

How much will $619,047 be able to buy in 10 years time? Hyper-inflation after all the money printing for more than a decade?
