Default Replace analogue TV with DAB module

Hi everyone

Had a thought. Is there any reason why I can't replace my TV analogue module, obviously now obsolete, with a DAB module. Saves messing about with cabling etc surely and connectors are all cross compatible aren't they?

im guessing you mean with a hybrid tv tuner , DAB is the radio

you can simply swap one unit for the other in this case

Erm, no...... Lol

I mean I've bought a DAB tuner to fit to the car. Car came with the now defunct analogue TV tuner.

The TV tuner is obviously dead weight as no more analogue TV signal, so it's doing nothing.

What is to stop me, rather than butchering wiring and adding in power cables and MOST optical cables just removing the TV tuner and fitting the DAB unit instead?

Essentially using the cars MMI harness plugs from a unit I can't use with one I can to save purchasing / adding additional wiring if not needed. I obviously realise that DAB is radio not TV lol

I don't see why not, as you say the MOST is just a loop and doesn't determine what goes where, I can't remember what plugs are on the tv and if they will swap over to the radio, I know half the time it just a standard set of power cables for most modules.

Then just code tv out of the options list to save yourself from any errors

In principle yes, it just needs power MOST and antenna.

The thing to watch out for is that the antenna cables are "keyed" differently so will need to be eitther changed or used an adaptor pigtail.

From memory, the TV fakra connectors are green and brown, whereas the DAB is black.

This shows the differences http://www.co-star.co.uk/images/pdf/FAKRA%20LIST.jpg

i did mine - changed the analogue to the hybrid unit, was lucky enough to get the unit half price from a8parts at one of the open days.

still it was something i thought i had to have, since then i must have used it a couple of dozen times, the kids watch their movies all the time, but rarely the tv, so in theory i could have just stayed with the analogue.

like so many of the retrofits the must have becomes a rarely used toy

That is my thinking entirely with the TV tuner - am I likely to actually watch TV? I've had TV in previous cars realistically not used it.

DAB on the other hand I would listen to so to save having to do any wiring mods just ditch one for the other; I don't see the need for messing with the wiring unless absolutely necessary. Less I mess with less to go wrong and there is the plugs and connectors sat there essentially going to waste as the analogue TV tuner is utterly useless of course.

DAB sucks... it's often worse than FM as its often mono and lower equivalent bitbrate. Better spending the money on an a2dp receiver and maybe a large data contract to stream the signal.
