Similar price here, though I think mine came from regtransfers.co.uk.
It was a long time ago (2001 maybe?) and I bought the plate well before the car!

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.). 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation".  (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!  Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course.  (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Without a doubt yes there are.
If its just S8 and not bothered about random digits after then hapy days. But the previous owner bought it for a lot more than im asking as the last 3 digits can be used as a short name.

Its like anything, if you wait long enough, you might find an S8 owner, which that name, who wants a private plate, but doesn't already have one, has that sort of money spare, and thinks its good value.
We used to get an 'A8 xxx' or 'S8 xxx' with every other car we dismantled. We took the first few off onto retention to sell, but the reality is we binned a lot off as the market was so niche, the time it took to sell them, and the price we achieved was literally not worth the paperwork. I tend to agree with others that the pricing seems somewhat optimistic, but then its your plate to do with as you please

My personal plate isn't car specific, so it's been on an A6, an A8 and 2 S8s.
The C6 JPG plate represents my wife's initials (CG) and mine (JPG). £250 inclusive of transfer from the DVLA in 2001. I wish you luck, Rick, but id I were a betting man, I'd be betting that you don't realise anything like the asking price.

I think I paid £450 for the wife's V8 plate with her initials (which also kind of spell a word)
I'm watching these on eBay at the moment and the pricing varies from 99p start to several K. The last 2 they've actually sold made £200 incl transfer fees (which are much cheaper than they used to be now) Current adverts incl a couple into 4 figures so worth watching those to see where the market is at If someone offered me S8ALE or V8ALE I'd probably pay over the odds for it but I'd probably go for a dateless plate in preference. I just fancy S8xxx and S8GYN and S8NGJ are the recent sells

I agree price seems a tad ambitious but good luck anyway
I paid around £60 for mine off Ebay, plus the transfer charges obviously
