Default Self Inflicted Damage ....argh!!

Hi Guys,

I was washing and polishing the car today, and caught the black glossy plinth that the front number plate and parking sensors are in - with the buckles on my wellies!. I immediately cut the buckles off the wellies, but the front plinth is badly scratched, only about 1cm long, but about 10 of them, and too deep to even attempt to polish out.

Does that section come off, or is the entire grill one assembly?

Any ideas?

Car is a 2009 - is that D3?

Thanks
Mark.

That's a D3.. So it's a facelift bumper too. I think that grill is a full assembly from memory, but maybe someone with a newer ETKA can check.

Thanks both - number 38 is the offending item - not sure I can justify £75 to £100 for replacement though - looks to be about £4 in plastic - so should be about £20 when you add a couple of 100% markup's.

I might have a go at removing from the car, and take some wet and dry to it followed by my DA polisher to see what happens.

Cheers
Mark.

Paints4u do an awesome little scratch repair kit for around 15 notes that contains everything you'll need.

Sorry for delay in responding - been to Guernsey for a couple of days.

Anyway, I have something very similar to the paints4u kit from Mer (called the Mer scratch Repair kit), which is essentially a rebadged Farecla kit, which I have used in stone chips previously - can highly recommend it, but watching the video is a must, otherwise the thought of using wet and dry on your lovely paint is horrific!

I am going to try and find another piece of similar self coloured plastic to have a play with - I am confident that I can get the scratches out with the 2000-3000 grit paper, but never tried using the compound to bring plastic back to a gloss finish

Thanks
Mark

I'm using the paints4u kit for somechip damage on the bonnet wings and a few scrapes and knocks around the car. I'm not after a A1 finish as my 8 isn't the best anyway. I've been using 2000 wet dry paper and it looks horriffic but a good compound polish and all is well.

The paint match from the paints4u kit is very good and even with a unseasoned dummy like me doing it it's hard to spot where i've repaired.

My car will be at ADI and i'm more than happy to let people have a play with it, the kit will be in the boot and i doubt i'll get round to polishing it now before the wk-end.
