Default Boot alignment

When I browse Autotrader or other sites just to see what's around at the moment one common observation is the boot alignment on D3's, like the example below.

Why do so many look misaligned?

It's a long shot, but maybe the softclose is stuck up or stuck down and the boot is not latched. I just fixed mine after 3 years and the boot looked like this unless slammed so hard, it cracked the tool box.

If I remember correctly, there are 3 adjustment bolts under some plastic caps on each side in the hinge.

Speaking from experience, the cause is more than likely when the boot release button is pressed, (because it's on the slow side), someone may have forced it up at some point thinking it will make it go faster but it instead forces the mechanism to run faster than it is designed to and misaligns it.

The boot hinge is worn or bent, mine was like that when I bought it, I used all the adjustment on the hinge I could and it's still not 100% right, as said above it more than likely has a powered boot as mine has, when its like that the seal at the back of the boot is not creating a good enough seal to keep it water tight so ingress could quickly become a problem.
