Solar charger connection
Folks
Am I ok to connect a 10w solar charger directly to the cigar lighter on the panel in front of the rear seats? The solar panel itself is 30cm x 33cm and will fit on the rear parcel shelf - my car is used 1-2x a week so just looking for something to top up the battery whilst not in use. Cheers

Personally I wouldn't bother, the D2 battery is pretty good. Have you checked that socket is always "live".
There have been loads of discussions here about using the much more powerful solar sunroof for this, don't think anyone has bothered. Several people, me included, have tried these small panels on other cars over the years and concluded they are largely/totally a waste of time.

Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! |

Will check the socket - if not I was planning a cheeky cable through the ski hatch directly to the battery.
The latest polycrystalline panels appear to offer better outputs than the mono panels for the same size, even if the socket doesn't work it shouldn't be too much trouble to at least test with a direct cable.
