Thanks very much guys, as I've said so many times before, I can't thank this forum enough. I would have long given up without your support.

...I know you're probably going to think I'm a glutton for punishment, but I've just requested a quote for carbon cleaning at MRC. I have no idea how on Earth I'm going to afford it, but I'd like to know where I'm headed... but that's for another thread.

That's great news, I wonder if Mackie's will show some good will if they didn't get the adaptation right?

I am so pleased you got it sorted, these are lovely cars, at least you can check the gearbox of the malady list for future!

Re: Carbon cleaning, ill be interested in hearing about your experiences with this, I was speaking to Will at VRS a while back, and they approach it differently, they do the carbon clean, but also remove the inlet flaps, then recode the car, basically it generates a totally stable airflow, increases induction noise (more lambo-esque) apparently, but avoids the failures happening in future from a bad design.

I had a similar thing done by Doug at MRC on my B6 S4 where he cable tied the inlet flap fully open and Minhea coded it out as part of a remap.

VRS dyno it before and after to show the effects of the clean and the inlet flap delete.

Glad to hear about car being sorted Tony.

Hopefully she behaves herself from now on.

As to carbon clean I guided Marcin through it on his via text messages so its not something that needs their sky high day rate.

If your even slightly mechanically inclined you can do this yourself.

In regards to the flaps they too can easily be removed while you are doing the decode.

It does sound like a different animal after it and there is no need of ecu flashing to do it as it is error free

Good to know - I tinker with my track car as I don't mind messing something up and then learning how to fix it with the Bentley manual, but the S8 is something I wouldn't take the same approach with. Any guides anywhere on how to do this?
