Default Aircon Heater Issue

Hi all,

We are entering winter here in OZ and while it is still mild by Europe standards, I would like my heater to work correctly.

It seems when on HI and at fill fan, the centre vents blow cold air. The outside dash vents blow hot air.

I changed the centre vent setting in the MMI to warmer and still no real difference. It seems to be sending through outside temp air.

In Auto mode these vents shut off so I am confused if this issue is normal or not.

A scan concluded the issue is the G113 potentiometer positioning motor for air flow flap.

It has open or short to plus.

Anyone changed this motor?

Edit: I'm half asleep - This is for D2, not D3, but the concept should be the same - I'd look at basic settings for a start

The outside air flow flap motor is under the bonnet.

At the rear of the engine bay is a meshed plastic cover held on by 3 screws.

Remove it, you will clearly see the flap.

On the side of the flap is a square box say 3 inches by 2 that houses the motor. Couple of cross head screws to remove the cover, and probably 2 more to change to the motor.

But, this probably wouldn't cause your issues as it only chooses recirculation or not, rather than air temp.

If you are getting the wrong air, in the wrong place, run output tests using VCDS and it will force the climate module to learn the positions of all the flaps. In output tests, with 000 showing in the box, just hit go. It will start at 50 (i think) and count down to 0, moving all the flaps. When at 0 it is done.

It will likely improve the issue massively, and/or may flag up another motor that is actually at fault

Thanks for that.

I did the basic setting and came up error free.

It all seems to work. Perhaps it's normal to be colder out of the centre vents

The flap is under the air filter and it works (close on recirc mode and open on defrost)

So I'm assuming it's normal. Perhaps I've not noticed it before.

One thing you could do, but I doubt it is the problem, but we should all do it, it blow air into the small grille on the HVAC controls. There is a tiny fan and a thermistor and dust can accumulate in there such that it is reading the temperature of the heat from the electronics rather than the cabin air that should be pulled in.
