Have to agree with you. That was one of the best short reviews I've seen for any car, and the focus is on the car, not the presenter.

Default Model 3 sales outstripping BMW, Audi and Mercedes

Obviously this is only in the US, but that's the only market you can buy the Model 3 in at present - and this graphic shows they're outselling each of the premium german marques on the combined sales for multiple models in their class.

I'm not sure many of us (if any, including me!) on here would have though Tesla would have been in this position when we had the Model S to try at our annual meeting way back in 2015...

Also, by 'sold', do they mean refundable deposits taken?

No, that's estimated sales (i.e. deliveries to customers): refundable deposits are well in excess of 400k for the Model 3 - or were within a week of the reveal 2 years ago, I think they're higher than that now.

Default The long read...

..and probably only for those on here who are interested in the wider - but related - topics of IT/business disruption

https://www.ben-evans.com/benedictev...and-disruption

Nothing that new here, but quite an interesting read all the same.

Not sure how many of you read New Scientist, but there was an article a couple of weeks ago about the energy requirements for AI which went on to consider cars.
One estimation was that, especially considering the extra sensory equipment, autonomous driving would require about 20% more energy than human-controlled.

And they saw little reason for this to change significantly even if processors etc. became more efficient as the software etc. would just get more complex and functional and soak that up.

In fact they suggested that better AI could encourage more long-distance commuting by car so make things worse!

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
