Default Dashcam

Has anyone got a dashcam installed in their D3?

If so, which one have you got and how is it wired in?

I have a blackvue DR380g.
Wired it in to the head lining unit at the front.

Its all installed and working fine.

I used this little port off the heads up controls.

Used the proper Audi Plug and cables, then connected them to a random mobile phone charging cable I had which fitted the Camera.

Put it all back together and it ended up like this.

All in and working.

That looks brilliant! Absolutely ideal.

Was it handy enough done? So there only 2 wires needed? Do you know the part numbers of the Audi bits?

Then just lopped off the charger cigarette lighter plug and connected to the 2 Audi wires?

You can see on the pic which pins you needs.
Its 4 and 2. going right to left looking at the pic.

I used this plug.
8k0973754

And this cable
000979009E

I was lucky with the Blackvue camera that it takes a 12v feed.
Some cameras might be a 5v feed. so you can't cut the plug off and wire it in.
Make sure what voltage it needs first.

Cheers. So the left wire in photo 2 is pin 2 and the right wire is pin 4? What are they both?

I'm after a cheaper camera as I intend to get 1 for the wifes Tiguan too, but the installation is perfect. Something else for the to do list!

Last question, does the part number for cable come as a single or a pair of wires?

Its a double ended cable.

So you only need the one.

I got a camera a year ago. It was £17 and pretty rubbish and was a fake of a decent model.
Just changed it for a G1W a couple of weeks ago and thrilled to bits with it.

Whichever one you get, watch out for inferior fakes/clones.
I painted the silver lens-ring and light with matt black paint but the current version is all black anyway.
Here is one of my clips... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnOKQO86KN0
