Default S8 Purchase

Guys

went to look at an S8 this week

FULL genuine audi history

immaculate interior and body

bay looked a little grubby but all there, just never been cleaned.

ran ok, classic inlet noise so needs attention

slower than my current one at top end of revs, but had 95 fuel that was 4 months old.

£8500

126k miles...

i can do the work myself and dont mind engine jobs etc..

good buy?

Andy

You wouldn't get anywhere near a running 2009/2010 with £8,500.

I'm guessing it's Daytona Grey? 126k is fair mileage so I'd want to know that the intake carbon cleaning has been done but if you say there are strange noises coming from the intake manifold then you probably know about the FSI problems already.

If it has carbon ceramic brakes then that would make me a bit twitchy with with 126k miles. If the disks have had it then you'll be dumping an extra half the cost of the car into new brake discs.

By carbon cleaning, I mean the full intake cleaning and flap removal work. If just the intake carbon cleaning has been done (I wasn't aware Audi were interested in doing such a thing) then that means the plastic swirl flaps are still there and are most likely all broken up and loose. Take it from me, it's quite scary removing the magnesium manifold and seeing one of the flaps balancing over an intake port ready to be eaten by the engine, and you can budget £1,000-£1,500 to get it done properly.

I was in this exact position two months ago, two intake ports blocked by broken flaps...fortunately had it opened up and gutted just in time.

It previously broke four years ago at 120k miles (20k miles earlier) and there wasn't much information available then so I had it repaired and refitted.

Loads of information and pics shared on here to show how it's done, if I were you it'd be the first job I'd have done.

They are holding value better than I thought then. I was thinking my 2009 would fetch about 8.5K if I was to sell it..... (not that I am selling)
