Suspension parts, help to find correct part
Hi
I`m trying to source the correct upper control arms, but every place I look there seem to be multiple parts that supposedly fits even with different part numbers. Have checked the parts catalouge as well but there seem to be a lot of different parts where only the last letter is different. My chassi number ends with: VN006346 In the parts catalouge I see that there is a difference with chassi number series s and v, I guess this is the sports package. Is there any difference in the control arms themself? Any guidance to what fits would be helpful. |

The difference in the upper rear arms is a small rubber buffer on top of the balljoint. Early cars had a rubber block screwed to the top of the suspension turret whereas later ones had the buffer built in to the top of the arm. Based on your chassis number you should have the later ones.
If they're both like the left one in this pic they're the early ones. If the rear one is like the right one in this pic then they're the later ones. The upper front arms are common to all from S-002701. Both are the same between sport and comfort, otherwise you would see PR codes listed along with the various different arms. I would say numbers are as follows: Upper front - 4D0 407 505H Upper rear left - 4D0 407 509J Upper rear right - 4D0 407 510J Meyle HD equivalents Upper front - 116 050 8239/HD Upper rear left - 116 050 8292/HD Upper rear right - 116 050 8293/HD Last edited by MikkiJayne; 28th August 2018 at 10:31 AM. |

Also I realised that there is a complete kit, probably best to just buy that and do everything at once.
When checking I see that there are two different kit but both is listed to fit my 97 3.7quattro. 116 050 0030/HD and 116 050 0041/HD Which do I buy? And also is Ebay the place to get this? Cannot find any local supplier (located in Norway) so need to shop internationally |

Order of preference and decreasing cost is TRW / Lemforder (OEM), then Meyle HD, then other name brands such as Delphi, QH, etc. Avoid the unbranded Chinese tat.
TRW / Lemforder are 'best' if you want to spend the money, but Meyle HD come with a 4 year warranty and they seem very well made for the price. A few of us are running them and they're doing well so far after a couple of years. Murray's Direct are quite a good supplier of Meyle, but there are a number of different suppliers on ebay with competitive prices. 116 050 0030/HD is the correct kit (up to 4D-X-005 500). 0041 is for 4D-X-005 501 onwards. The bottom balljoint pins are different sizes on the two kits. Edit - our sponsors may be able to get the kit for you and I'm sure they can post to Norway. If not, PM me and I can help Last edited by MikkiJayne; 28th August 2018 at 01:26 PM. |
