Haha...we're not there yet!

A few questions

- Am i right to assume that i don't have to change out anything on my abs sensors?
- It looks as though the red-stuff pad sensors ahave a different clip [not sure though]. Am i wrong or should i be prepared to have to make mods?
- I'm thinking of upgrading the brake fluid to MOTUL RBF 600 - i would consider others but have read good things about it especially for track days.

Not sure about the ABS sensors.. I'd suck it and see, but it should be fine as the hub is the same and it has the reluctor ring in it.

WRT the pad wear sensors.. You're probably going to have to chop it. I'd see abotu getting the correct conenctor for the car end and splicing that in to save hassle later.

Or.. You could sell them on to a D3 owner at a knockdown price (hint, hint )

No need to change anything on the ABS sensors. The fit the hub carrier and read from the hub.

I did away with the pad sensors because I have a conscientious preventive maintenance process and know exactly how much pad wear I have!

Upgrading to DOT 5 or above depends on how serious a kicking your gonna give the brakes. can't do any harm!

Can i just cut off the sensor cables or would i be suffering from a DIS pad sensor fault displayed?

Yes, you can cut the sensor cables and join them up so that the circuit is 'shorted' to avoid a permanent pad wear DIS warning.

Hi,

So i had a go at this after work and i got to put the old and the new side by side for a moment - i was feeling pretty confident especially after seeing a post here of it just being a straight forward swap of parts...but he does appear to have different brakes to me...



Then as i tried to mount the first disc and caliper, i came to realise that the calipers actually seem to mount differently - please see the mounting points on the standard A8 caliper vs the new one...they mount on different sides of the bracket (if that makes sense) and no matter what i tried, it just didn't seem to be a standard bolt-on job.



I'm at a bit of a loss now...am i just not doing this right or is this setup just not as straight forward as i had hoped? If the latter, can i fix it somehow with brackets?!

I was really hoping to get it done tonight and to test these uber brakes

Your advice much appreciated...

Hi Oli,

I'm not the expert in these areas, but, I believe the pre facelift and post facelift brakes mount differently, and your new brakes came from a D3, so not sure how the heck that fits in to the equation.

Anyway, the point is that I think Frank (from memory) is one of the very early facelifts that still have the older pre-facelift front hubs (steel) and thus may have different brakes too.

Sorry to be vague, not my area but I know David has muttered these things before.... The facelift D2 S8 is different again as it has brembos which mount differently...

It doesnt answer the question, but maybe seeing what D2 (if any?) it was supposed to bolt straight onto might help narrow down the chances of getting it to fit?

If its a pre/post facelift problem, and it looks like its a showstopper, and it looks like it might fit mine, I'll gladly relieve you of them as I'm about to spend way more than that on some other brakes, so I could then justify this purchase as a cost saving excercise.... I should have been an accountant.....

Hope you get em to work though.....

Is the distance between bolt holes the same? The caliper should fit behind the Hub mounting points as the hub has the thread that the bolts fit. If the caliper is to far towards the outside of the car and doesn't centre on the disk you can use shims to move it inward.

If its to far in then you will need a bracket to off set the mounting point. Unless it is only a millimetre or so then you could machine the calliper mounting points.
