That's an interesting discovery. Is that what causes the 'random' disconnects? Connected directly to Nicehash I'm getting 0.2% dead time due to socket errors, but on MRR it was 25-30%.

I can't match cast's hash rate with stak either, although its closer than 25% for me. >1950H/s per card on cast or ~1800H/s on stak. When I was doing Electroneum stak would get a better average rate on the pool and found more shares than cast, but Nicehash doesn't care - it just wants more H/s.

Also, although cast will happily run both cards with one executable, it is definitely faster running one per card instead, by 50-100H/s for the same power consumption. Stak doesn't show the same difference though. Running two instances of cast reduces hash rate drop due to disconnects too as the cards hardly ever disconnect at the same time so even if one is idling, the other is still running.

Just need more of them now!!! There are a couple of Sapphire 56s on ebay for £650 but I'm not paying that for used ones when Scan say they will have the Red Devil in at the end of the month for £600. No sign of the French ones yet.

So after a bit of tinkering with the L3+ with custom firmware and adjusting settings for individual hashing boards I have gone from 520MH/s to 620MH/s, I have not measured power consumption yet but based on my previous observations on other L3+s it's probably gone from 800W to 1000W and now it's mining dev fee 1.5% of time. Overall after dev fee and increased power consumption I am about £60/month better off now. No point flashing other 2 L3+s I have as hashing boards are more evenly matched on those so I would not gain anything, just loose 1.5% mining time in dev fee.

That's a bit poor! I doubt those 1st gen cards I ordered will turn up at all tbh. They originally estimated 9th Jan, but there's no date on them at all now. I'll probably end up ordering a pair of the Red Devils from Scan I think.

There was another batch of L3+ and S9 released at 3am GMT from Bitmain but sold out already. Second part of the same batch will be available at 9AM GMT.

Definitely looking like a good time to buy.

It seems to be finding support around $12K at the moment, though it looks like it could slide a little lower and maybe move to a support level of $11K or even $10K. I'd wait to see if it does and/or buy as soon as there's a strong up-tick.

If Kay Van-Petersen's prediction is correct, the price right now is an absolute bargain:

Van-Petersen said Tuesday that bitcoin could hit between $50,000 and $100,000 in 2018.

"First off, you could argue we have had a proper correction in bitcoin, it has had a 50 percent pull back at one point, which is healthy. But we have still not seen the full effect of the futures contracts," Van-Petersen said.

The CME and Cboe both launched bitcoin futures trading contracts last year. The move was seen as a way to get more institutional investors involved in the cryptocurrency market and legitimize it. But trading got off to a light start. Van-Petersen said that more institutions will get on board over time, but it won't happen quickly.

And Dave Chapman, managing director of cryptocurrency trading firm Octagon Strategy, said that bitcoin could hit $100,000 in 2018.

This could certainly be a crash....Long term I'm certainly not worried.

Am tempted with getting or possibly building another GPU rig....I'd like another S9/similar but unless they slump on ebay or I get lucky with Bitmain I can't see it happening. GPU's on the other hand whilst a touch pricey are affordable and probably more home friendly....I've got a spare BT 6' rack in the garage from an old home cinema set-up that could be nicely utilised

The ROI and efficiency of GPUs isn't as good as an S9 but, as you say, much better for home use/heating. And they potentially have a better resale value if they become unprofitable to mine with.

An equipment rack is an interesting idea -- hadn't thought of that. I suppose you could just use cheap rack shelves/trays to attach the cards and motherboards to. With a 6 foot rack you could create a multi-storey GPU miner.
