Default Cracked windscreen

Afternoon all,

Windscreen of my A8 (3.0 TDi Sport) has developed a significant horizontal crack starting at the edge of the windscreen - about half way up on the passenger side. In thirty odd years of motoring, I've never previously had so much as a stone chip on a windscreen. Google tells me that the crack is too long for a repair, so the windscreen will have to be replaced.

I haven't spoken to the insurance company yet, but is there anything in particular that I need to be aware of - is it safe to allow the windscreen replacement boys loose on my car, or should I take it to an Audi dealer?

Would post pictures, but the car is embarrassingly grubby at the moment...

Thanks,
John

John just read this thread first - I know its for D2 A/S8's but the same will probably apply.

See also this thread too

As it is Aluminium bodied it will probably need the "special Audi sponge" that is mentioned and you should certainly make sure that whoever does it is aware of that. Good luck

Thanks for the thread links. Just the sort of stuff I feared! I'm more concerned than I was before - but at least I am now better informed.

I'll report back when I've taken the plunge.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Regards,
John

Thumbs up

Well, it's looking like a big "Well done" to Autoglass at Stafford Park, Telford. They seemed to know what they were talking about before the job, and they seem to have executed it well.

Happy days.

Regards,
John

Insurance - yes, thank goodness. Though the excess was slightly more than a full tank of fuel http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/images/sm...bsupsmiley.gif

Changed insurers just before it happened - from a policy with a much lower excess on windscreen cover - hey ho.

Presumably (a dangerous game) £820 includes fitting, yes?
