Default Boot lid grommet is falling apart (offside)

Hello everyone,

Boot lid grommet is falling apart on the right hand side of the car.
This is where electric wiring harness is entering the boot at an angle.

Anybody knows how to fix it permanently?

I didn't find the original part number.
Maybe something from another car will work?

I think it's moulded on to the tube, so not separately available.
Mine did the same and I used a grommet/cap, I think for a mains wiring socket backbox, slit open to slide over and liberally smothered in black mastic.

Sort of works, but the design means that fitment is subject to a lot of movement as the boot is opened and closed so it won't ever last long.

Mine is not moulded onto the tube. Thanks for the suggestion Andrew.

I think on many D2s this grommet has disintegrated, so there must be someone who repaired it permanently. Any more solutions?

The geometry of the whole setup is wrong, try watching how it all moves as you open and close the boot.
Once I removed all the old grommet (it was sort of glued on, not moulded) I pulled the pipe out of the lid a bit to introduce some slack and slightly rerouted it as shown, before fixing the grommet and gunge.
This way it twists that section of pipe with less leverage at the grommet:

Just ordered Sugru - looks like a great idea, but I'd never heard of it before - thanks for the tip off!

Actually Sugru probably would be good for this application. It's probably a bit firmer than the original rubber grommet, once it's set, but still fairly flexible. It can be quite difficult to make something that's neat and not full of finger impressions though. Ideally you would need to make some sort of mould first.

And remember to store it in the fridge for longer shelf life:
