00066 Rear Right Footwell heater
Yet another error code (or codes) on my 2005 A8 W12 that I would like some help with please?
In fact there are two of them that have existed since I bought the car two years ago but don't seem to be causing any grief other than they will not clear down. Would be nice to get them sorted though! 00066 - Rear Right Footwell Heater (Z43) 004 - No signal/Communication 00065 - Rear Left Footwell Heater (Z42) 012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent Thought I'd sorted the first fault with the rear right when I looked in the right hand side fusebox and found the 25A fuse in position 33 blown. Replaced it but when I started the car I thought I heard the new fuse pop? Surely enough when I checked again it had blown. The fuse for the left rear footwell heater was OK as indicated by the error code but what can the problem be? The control panel in the rear lights up and appears to be working OK although as the driver I have not sat in the back to see if anything is blowing through the vents… So what might be causing the fuse to blow on the right rear footwell heater and where would I look to see what might be causing the error code on the left rear side? Thanks & kind regards, -=Glyn=- Last edited by GlynH; 11th February 2014 at 02:31 PM. |

There's an extra little heater element in the back.. I've seen those kind of errors in pretty much every D3 I've scanned

Thanks for the quick reply Psyche,
It sounds like an electrical trace heater of some sort then especially as it is protected with a 25A fuse? Where are they located and are they easy to get to? Probably not…but I have to ask! Does anyone have a part number/price for these elements please? I just hate to see error codes reported as you can probably guess from my last flurry of postings! Thanks & kind regards, -=Glyn=- |

I've got the same faults on mine, it seems that the heater element fails eventually. There are two fuses, one for each side. The passenger side heater is in the front passenger side fusebox, and the drivers side is on the drivers side fusebox. Both fuseboxes are on the end of the dashboard.
You have to replace the whole assembly, its not cheap and the front seats and carpet need to come out to even get to them.

The carpet splits just under the seats, and it's 4 torx bolts to undo the seats.. Depends on where the plug is for the heater as to how much of a pain the'd be to replace. I'm guessing they're in the floor vents just under the seat.
EDIT: Just looked on ELSAWin.. Looks quite easy to do, they're directly under the vent under the seat, so undo seat bolts, slide or lean seat forward (or back, depends what's easier for access), take cover off, remove unit and the plug is just underneath. Part numbers: 4E0 819 013A for left, and 014A for right. Around 130 Euro each according to my out of date ETKA.
