I suspect postage is illegal for a device such as an airbag!

Not illegal, but most couriers prohibit them.

The Royal Mail are a bit touchy about the whole 'going bang' thing on items I suppose!

Among prohibited items, the Royal Mail lists:

Explosives

Any chemical compound, mixture or device capable of producing an explosive or pyrotechnic effect with substantial instantaneous release of heat and gas is prohibited e.g. ammunition, blasting caps, Christmas cracker snaps, fireworks, flares, fuses, igniters, nitro-glycerine and party poppers.

Items that appear to be prohibited explosive ordnance may be subject to additional checks and delays.

And an airbag works as follows:

The airbag system ignites a solid propellant, which burns extremely rapidly to create a large volume of gas to inflate the bag. The bag then literally bursts from its storage site at up to 200 mph (322 kph) -- faster than the blink of an eye!

I'd guess that that would count as prohibited.

Thanks for clearing that up. I did already mention that most classify it as prohibited.

Excuse my ignorance but how do the airbags ever get to the factory for fitting in the first place then? Lol

Well they would be securely packaged with the delivery company knowing what they are carrying and all precautions taken in transit.

For example all airbags must face upward in transit as they will become projectiles if fired while upside down.

And you cannot guarantee that it will be correct way up with general courier even if you marked box which way to keep it and all the involved people would keep it correct way up there is always possibility it could turn other way while on automatic sorting carousel.

Received in good order and fitted!

It's the same steering wheel moulding just with a bit more padding and very easy to fit.

Thanks!

And now with the proper badge!
