Default charcoal cannister for 2001 S8 D2

Hi All

I have had a strong smell of fuel coming from the back of the S8,I have taken the S8 to my local garage and they have said that the charcoal cannister needs renewing but they are not available to buy anymore.

Does anyone know where I can pick up a 2nd hand one from.

Many thanks.

I've never heard of a charcoal cannister, but A8 Parts, the forum sponsor, is a good place to start

Never heard of the D2 having a charcol canister.

Are you sure you dont just have the leaking fuel pump top where the sender connects, its a very common problem and several members on here including myself have had it. Usually most obvious just after filling to the top but can occur any time. You'll not see any leaking petrol as it leaks out and evaporates over the top of the fuel tank.

Fill up the car so the tank is full, Open boot, remove carpet, remove cover from the right hand side rear of the boot. You are now looking at the fuel pump, the top of mine was soaking in petrol after filling causing a petrol smell both inside and outside the car but it was strongest inside.

I replaced mine using the repair kit from Audi, and all was fine afterwards, no smell, no leaks etc.

Sounds like a fuel pump issue to me - Usually charcoal canisters are at the front end of the vehicle, in the inner wing if u cant find it

Thats what I assumed was being referred to by the "charcoal cannister" - though whether the filter contains charcoal as a filter medium i dont know.

A charcoal canister is usually a black plastic box with a foam like material inside.

Your fuel filter is a large metal canister

They seem to exist, part number 8D0201801D, though I've never seen anyone refer to them.
All to do with control of excess fuel vapour and returning it to the fuel tank in due course. Maybe sited near the fuel filler, or not used in all countries?

I'd ask our sponsors, they would know.

Fuel filter is something completely different; I had mine replaced recently, purely precautionary.
