Cruise Control
I have a problem with the cruise control being intermittent. My question is wether it is likely to be the vaccum system or the stalk. The symptoms are that it either works or doesn't, and turning the car off and on can change this, but sometimes while it is on for any number of minutes it will suddenly cut out and not come back on again until the engine is turned off and on again but this doesn't alwaye cure it.

If it were the vacuum system, I'd expect it never to work as once the seal is gone it wont reseal.
If it were the stalk, I cant see how turning the engine on/off can help. There is a controller for the cruise system on prefacelift which may have got some damp or something, which might reset itself a little if the power is cut / reapplied ? Thats probably where i'd start....

From memory, it sits in the plenum chamber under the bonnet - Its the big box on the right hand side that houses the gearbox, ABS and engine ECU. Pretty sure the cruise control lives in there too, its the smallest item, slightly smaller than a pack of fags I guess, silver, 1 multiway connector on it.
Damp in there could affect the components / contacts I guess.. Check it out, and if its totally duff, I'm sure a8parts will have spares
