Have a shop around on the insurance Bill, Direct Line are always at least 30% more expensive for me - I am 40 and with 13+yrs no claims, my 4.2 QS is with Swinton, they didn't care about the factory fitted options, which by the way the previous insurers did, Elephant (they charged me extra for xenons and natural leather!), LV are quite cheap but will insist on a tracker

Direct Line have an almost zero tolerance policy on mods (have a friend who jsut left there), Admiral/Bell/Elephant (same company, different prices) are the place to go for '8s!

The only problem with Admiral/Bell/Elephant is that they charge a fortune if you want to pay monthly, that's why I moved from them. The interest charge is ok, but they remove the 'discount for paying up front' as well as the interest, so it ends up far too much - not a problem if you have enough space on your credit card and pay it monthly that way, but I don't

Elephant insure me on the Suzuki wagon R for nearly a year now, 8 in wifes name due to my years of riding bikes and therefore no car nc bonus. With her shoulder we were going to switch at the end of the year as hand on heart, could we really say she was the main driver? My demolition of the side of a ford fiesta with the 8's wing mirror and rubbing strip the first summer I had one (2008) doesn't help me insurance wise either. Our NC protection premium is erm, large. On the positive side, If I want to go and insure an 05 GSXR1000 then that works out at £160 ish fully comp. Pity I don't really want one any more.

Don't give up just yet Bill. An insurance assessor wouldn't even be able to tell them Phaeton ducts weren't standard fit. It would take someone of Ian's 8 genius to work that out. Try Sky insurance and Chris Knott. Both very mod friendly. At least try Bill.

I'll try swapping my wagon insurance over, that should be a funny call. "Hello, I'm changing my group 2 crapbox for a group 20, please use lubricant".

I could persuade the wife to ditch the wagon but it was her sisters and she's not yet a year gone so bit iffy that one. Plus having a second car that drinks half the fuel of the 8 is nice, as is not getting needles in the 8 this year from the tree.

Believe it or not, NU, now Aviva, were cheapest by far for me at £420 full comp, protected bonus, legal cover & breakdown.

Direct line wanted stupid money for far less cover.

I'm pleased with Aviva. I managed to get a huge crack on the screen of my BMW and they arranged for autoglass to fit me a new screen. I insisted on a genuine BMW one (just because I wanted to keep the logos) autoglass said insurance companies never agree to genuine or will make me pay the difference. But they rang Aviva to ask anyway and Aviva agreed straight away to order a BMW one. It took a little longer but I got OEM rather then OE.
