Default Brake pad replacement - piston tool needed?

Hi all, just a quick question - about to replace all my brake pads but haven't removed them yet. I know that I need to use the Vag-Com to "open" the rear brake calipers - how about the fronts? Do they need a "push back" tool that rotates the piston as it retracts or is it a straight push?

Only the rear calipers need the rewind tool as far as I'm aware. Not sure about the D3, but I am 70% certain you will only need it for the rears.

The rears on the D3 are done with VCDS as you say, so no tool needed there.

The fronts are just straight push back, so no special tool needed, but always handy to have one, especially if it's a dual-piston setup you have.

The rears need Vag-Com to deactivate the caliper then you need to manually push the piston back into the caliper.

I use an old joiners G-clamp to push the pistons back

Must have pushed mine back then.. couldn't remember

Did get a wind-back tool fromt the local factors for about 15 quid, has saved me (and a couple of mates) a whole pile of grief over the last few years.. Anyone local is more than welcome to borrow it.

Thanks all, I do have a wind-back tool somewhere but it's buried under all the Jensen bits! Looks like I won't need to disturb them just yet.
