basically any drive that can be run off a single USB connection (ideally Mini USB or youd need an adapter). Then you need the AMI to USB cable.

Usually a load of audi dealers with audi branded ones with the cable on ebay.

Audi Hdds are on ebay from £50 up to 83ish

I got a 250GB which is plently big enough , but i see there is now a 500gb available if your really obsessive.

think i got the cable required thrown in with mine, so i now have the hdd and i can swap over to Ipod if i change the cable.

Ipod functionality is a bit easier to search for tracks etc, but as long as you put them on hard disc in folders etc its no problem to use. also you can use playlists so its no bother

you will notice the difference between MP3 tracks running 320k and those below, i spent ages noting down tracks where i could hear "artifacts" in the music and updating them to higher quality.

Personally, I use WinAmp for music management in general, but it works a treat to put music by artist/album/track on the HDD.

Just in time for iTunes to screw them all back up!

is it a mini usb or a standard usb ? reason i ask is that i have a lap top HDD and i can use a USB to IDE converter for it to work ? but if its a mini then i would need a IDE to USB to Mini USB to be able to plug it into the MMI

for example i have a 250GB lap top HDD i can Fat32 it
then use this
http://www.usbnow.co.uk/p52/USB_2.0_...FVEjfAod2UTNcQ

plugged into this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Startech-Mic.../dp/B002O1S8IE

and then plug it into the AMI so in theory would that work ?

It's a mini USB, though you can get a standard USB adapter cable too I believe.

Difference between the two is 70 Gb The Audi one will definitely work with the power draw available from the AMI, but you need the adapter cable with both.
