Default Pinout of amplifier connector

Hi,

I have the bog standard audio (no badges anywhere) and it keeps losing the front right channel. I suspect it's shutting down due to a speaker fault, but would like to do some tests.

Does anyone have the pinout of the amplifier's connector? I'd like to drive the speakers from a little battery amp (hmmm, impedance wrong?) or at least get a meter on them.

Thanks

Its far easier to plug in vagcom to see whats going on. Output tests will send a test signal to each speaker in turn to help diagnose such problems.....

Yes, I've done that. Close to nothing from front right mid range or treble speakers. But is this due to amplifier, loom or speaker?

BTW, no errors from amplifier until very recently when it claimed FR open circuit, but the speakers weren't working before it threw this fault.

Resetting the MMI can clear the fault, but a few hours/days, but it comes back again. I've tried wriggle the wires going to the driver's door, but there are no crackles or anything.

I figured that if I could test from the amp end I could see if it's open circuit or at least showing a different resistance to the LH side.

sounds more like a dry joint in the amp, or a short/break in the wire than a speaker issue.

Not a lot other than driving about with a continuity tester will tell you if the wiring is dodgy.

Well, if I can get the pinout, or even the colour codes for the relevant speaker cables, then I'm happy to knock together a continuity tester cum data logger just for this job!

Worst case I probe around injecting signals and see what makes a noise!

That looks like it could be the one! I'll have a furtle this weekend.

I've read elsewhere that the crossover and/or treble can die and overload the amp. It then shuts down that channel to protect itself.

If I can diagnose and then get a speaker swapped out (or DIY?) then it should be much cheaper.

Hmm, no, not the right one.

My connector has a 3x7 array of pins and then another two on the end (I guess power).

The amp is labelled 4E0 035 223

I whipped the AMP out and opened it up. Nothing visibly wrong, but when I stuck it back in the car, is was working again!

I suspect a bad joint so will run a soldering iron over it if it does it again.

A pinout would still be very handy as it would be good to track back from the connector to see if I can spot any likely candidates.

Are you sure it is a 21pin connector?? I cant find such a connector on the drawings, T21 (21pin=3*7=21)

Anything specific mate coz there is a ton of diagrams for the amp??
