LED Downgrade - Better incadesants?
Hi There
my 2005 PF A8 came with a whole load of LED lights which is all well and good but I have a fair few errors, they flicker and i'm really not keen! So i've been swapping the odd one or two back and just using what bulbs I had arround! 501s seem to fit in various places, like the front map lights which they are fine for and I quite like the soft not ripping your face off lighting there. However in the overhead lights they are a little lame! So what bulbs are they (the leds seem to give little to the notion of part numbers) and are there higher output versions out there ??? Lee |

Yes they should be standard 501, but you can get H5W ones which are halogen, they use quartz glass and have a 'nipple' on the end.
These are them, but seem hard to find these days... http://www.aci.cz/9900322-zarovka-t1...en_d25974.html |

Hi There,
Got a pair of these from Amazon on their way and due tomorrow. £6 all in doesn't seem too bad. If they work and are reasonable then i'll swap out the main cabin lights front and rear. Keep the map/reading on the softer old style ones. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MZQUU70 May even look at swapping the sidelights, though they are a sod to get to *sigh* |

Out of interest, what colour is your interior?
Mine (admittedly a D2) is the light sand/beige colour and upgrading from yellow incandescent bulbs to white LED's all round is a significant improvement IMHO. I would imagine that with a black interior it could look quite harsh.

Hi There,
I quite like the bright light of the LEDs but they flicker and they are harsh and the muppet who had the car before me did kinda pimpy things like that, but not in a very good way I've found a few dead LEDs, the drivers map light that was broken in the socket, another that seemed to have half melted the soldier joints which wasn't good. The number plate ones worked sometimes. Some turned off after a few minutes. It's a mess and i'm not sure of some of the coding so quite what things would have looked like all working is a mystery! It's dark colour. Black leather, black carpets, alcantra door inserts, grey cloth above the window line. (LY7H/LY7H N5D/LA). Has the extended lights though, which i'm still not quite certain how they work & are used but the subtle led highlighting of the doors trim curves at night is cool |
