found the issue ... CD changer is buggered and stoped the loop

ive stripped the FO Cable and made a joiner for it looped it together and it all booted up as normal

seems i need a new cd changer despite this one only being about 4 months old. secondhand granted but still a duff unit

That's useful information - I wouldn't have suspected the CD changer. I did the same with my MMI but there was no corrosion or visible damage to the board so after a meticulous cleaning session with a fair few ear buds didn't make a difference I decided to swap it, luckily for me it worked

That's the issue with the MMI (and any MOST system, BMW, Volvo, etc.) if one unit in the loop fails, the whole thing is down as they need to repeat the signal on to the next device in line.
