Default D2 3.7

I've been offered a 3.7 at a price I cant really refuse.
I'll check for common things that I know about from owning my 4.2 and i'll do the checklist that you can print off on audipages.

What are the differences between the 3.7 and 4.2?
Just wondering because if the car breaks or has a serious fault i'd just break it or use parts off of it for myself.
Any specific things I should look out for on a 3.7, its a high mileage one at 170k

Cheers
Andrew

3.7s have no real issues that differ from the 4.2s. Is it a 2WD or Quattro?

The only difference is a little less power, but better MPG. If you want the same power the N2O it and your on a winner!

Nice little project car or run around.

Pictures please. What are your plans?

It's an N reg Quattro, same year and colour as my 4.2.
I've not got anymore info on it yet, going to see it tomorrow hopefully!
Plans would be to use it as a daily and see how expensive it is on fuel, if I can handle the cost of fuel i'd sell my Mk3 Golf and just have the two A8's - 3.7 daily and 4.2 show/go

My mate thinks its a 4 speed box but i'll confirm that tomorrow, I hope it is as I dont trust the 5 speeds!
Hopefully it has a decent service history and has had the belts, pump etc done recently
I'll get it up on the ramps and check for any play or leaks.
Oh and i'll take plenty pictures if I'm able to view it tomorrow!
Cheers

Pre facelift 3.7s are front wheel drive only - It can't be a quattro. This also means it is a 5 speed box.....

The pre face 3.7 is also quite down on power - Its only 235bhp compared to the 265hbp of the facelift 3.7 Q.

You will probably find it quite dissapointing compared to the 4.2Q you already have IMO, but if its (really) cheap, it might make for good spares... at 170K the original box wont have much life left if its still in it....

Andrew,

Are you on the road yet or are you still putting the 4.2 back together?

My OCD has got the better of me and i'm still cleaning and rebuilding the 4.2
Could have just put it back together without spending all my time cleaning and painting everything but I thought I may aswell do it while i've got it all apart!

Went and viewed it today, it has Black Recaro Leather with heated and fully adjustable front seats - no rips, no tears, just slight bolster wear on drivers side.
BOSE
Electric rear blind and manual rear window blinds
S8 steering wheel
front bumper is knackered
needs new front breaks
it has brand new tyres all round
engine starts up nice and strong, runs nicely
5 speed box no judders, no clunks

I'm not interested in the car as I already own a 4.2Q and I dont really have the space or money to run two A8's when I think about it.
If your interested drop me a pm
